    Current Situation...
This project needs a new home...Due to my age and medical condition I am unable to complete the model. I am not a Model Maker, but have spent hundreds of hours on details that is not viewable. I would like to see someone complete the project. As shown the two top masts and all top sails are made, but not rigged. This WEB page was developed to share the project progress with others, so pictures are of various stages of construction. Opening an immage in a new tab will allow you to see greater detail.

    Project Overview...
Why Bluenose II...I have always admired the Bluenose II with it's unique sail configuration and sleek hull design. After retirement I decided to build a scale model of the Bluenose II. You can purchase a 12" model, but I wanted something larger, so I decide on a 1:20 scale. Perhaps this was an overkill as the hull it's self is 84" long and with the ship on the floor the mast will almost touch an 8' ceiling. .
Source Material...I purchased a copy of the "Bluenose II, Sage of the Great Fishing Scooners, measured drawings by L.B. Jensen. It is copyrighted by Bluenose II Preservation Trust Society and published by Nimbus Publishing Ltd. This is the source used in construction of the model.

    Amenities... (Details below)
Ships Wheel... Solid Brass - Custon milled with Bloodwood handles and is fully operational with the sterrer and rudder
Steerer... Solid Brass and is fully operational via the ships wheel and operates the rudder.
Windlass... Fully functional windlass (Motor Driven or hand operated), Custom made via 3D Printing.
Decking... Decking is constructed of individaul planks of Bloodwood, scaled in size from actual ship, and spaced to provide black cauking between planks. Trennels provided at each timber. Edge planks are joggled to the margin board. Approx. 44 planks across amidship. The bloodwood is not stained, just sealed. Thus, any repair work just requires sanding and a coat of sealer.
Mast Hoops... Hand bent laminated oak detailed with fasteners. Just like the real thing.
Sails... Bolt ropes are sewn into the edge hems and forms loops for attachment to the mast. Sail panels are represented with actual stitching. Gromets used for boom lashing, etc.
Cabin...The cabin portholes are solid brass surrounding the windows.
Gunnels...The Gunnel dranage holes are actual cutouts.
Mast & Booms...The masts and booms were turned on a lathe and are tapered.

    Construction Details...
Keel... Keel and Frames are constructed as described in L.B Jenson's "Bluenose II - Saga of the Great Fishing Scooners" on pages 40 through 42. This includes all layers of the keel to include the Shoe, Third Keel, Second Keel, First Keel, etc. The stern section includes the Keelson, Sister Keelsons, Horn Timber, Stringers, Rider Keelson, Hardwood Cover, Stem Post, etc.
Frames... There are 62 Frames and all are laminated sections as shown on page 42. The bow frames are canted to the stem, amidship rames are sandwitched between the Keelston and the First Keel, and the stern frames are canted to the Deadwood.
Hull Planking... Hull is planked with individual strips scaled in size to the actual ship. It is not double planked.
Mast Hoops... Strips of oak were milled to 0.025", steamed, glue was applied, and then wound around a dowel rod forming a tube. The round oak tubes were sliced forming the mast hoops. Just like the originals were made. If you look closely you can see the fasteners.
What's left to do... The two top masts and all top sails are made, but not rigged. Material exist for Deckhouses, deck fittings, etc.
